Group FAQs

What do I need to check-in?

A valid photo ID such as passport, national identity cards, driver's licence, national military service card, etc is required at check-in. Please note that student Cards are not accepted as valid ID.

What time is Check-in & Check-out?

Check-in is from 2pm at Safestay London Holland Park, Safestay London Elephant & Castle and Safestay York and from 3pm at Safestay Edinburgh. All of our hostels are open 24 hours a day, 7 days week. You must check-out before 10:00am as late check-outs will incur a charge. If you’re arriving early you’re welcome to store your luggage in one of our luggage rooms or safety deposit boxes.

How can I make a booking?

To book online: go to the Book Now page, select your dates and room type and follow the payment instructions. You'll then receive an email confirmation with your booking details and reference.

By email / phone: if you prefer, you can send us an email for special bookings and requests. You'll find our information on the "Contact" page.

For group bookings: Please contact us by phone on +44 (0)20 3326 8471 or by email at groups@safestay.com or fill out the form on the Group Bookings page.

Is there any booking fee?

You will be charged a non-refundable deposit of 10% of your total stay when you book with us online. For email and phone bookings we require valid credit card details to guarantee your booking.

How long do I have to make a cancellation?

Cancellations must be made 24hrs prior to arrival either by e-mail or telephone. Failure to do so will result in forfeiture of the cost of the first night.

Who can stay in your hostels?

Safestay welcomes all customers and unlike some of our competitors we do not require guests to be members of any organisation in order to enjoy our facilities and services. Guests staying with Safestay must be 18 years or over or must be accompanied by someone 18 years or over.

Is there an age restriction?

Customers under the age of 16 are only permitted to stay in private rooms or shared rooms that are booked for the sole use of one family or a group of persons booked together and must be accompanied by an adult over the age of 18. Any person between the age of 16 and 18 years must be accompanied by an adult (over 18) staying in the same room or dormitory.

Is linen included?

Yes, bed linen is included and beds are made prior to arrival.

What about towels, are they included?

Our private twin, double and triple rooms have towels included. For all other room types we rent towels at £2.00 per towel (£5.00 deposit). Towels can also be purchased at reception for £10.00.

Is breakfast included?

Breakfast is not included in the price but continental breakfast is available to purchase at Safestay London Elephant & Castle, Safestay London Holland Park and Safestay York for £4.00. We offer a continental style buffet that includes quality ham, cheese, and a selection of breads, cereals, fruit and juices as well as tea and coffee. Breakfast is served daily between 07:00 and 09:00am. At Safestay Edinburgh a full Scottish breakfast is available for an additional £4.95.

Is there Internet access?

All of Safestay’s hostels offer 100% FREE Wi-Fi in communal areas and the majority have free Wi-Fi throughout the building. Internet terminals are also available at an hourly rate.

What time do I have to leave the hostel?

You must check-out of your room by 10:00am, but you may still use the bar facilities and lounge areas throughout the day. Late check-outs will incur a charge of an additional night.

How do I get there?

Is there a curfew?

There is no curfew; you can enter and leave as you please.

Are the hostels safe and secure?

The clue is in the name. Safestay understands the need for guests to feel safe and secure. To that end all our hostels are staffed 24hrs a day and access is controlled using Electronic Key cards. We have CCTV throughout each building and each bed comes with its own locker, for safe storage of your valuables.

Is food available to purchase?

Yes, food offering varies between hostels, but in all hostels we offer a continental breakfast, and a full Scottish Breakfast at Safestay Edinburgh. Check out each hostel’s property pages to find out more about the food and drink on offer.

Do the hostels have a bar?

Yes. Again, the services and products differ between hostels, but each has a café or bar. Check out each hostel’s property pages to find out more about the food and drink on offer.

Are the rooms unisex?

All rooms are unisex, but upon demand we will try and arrange single sex dorms, subject to availability. Please call reception on +44 (0)20 3326 8471.

Are families welcome?

We encourage families to stay with us and take advantage of either our multi-bedded dorms or our 2 bedded or 3 bedded private rooms. We do not allow families with children aged 16yrs and under to share dorms with other guests, therefore all beds in a multi-bedded dorm must be booked and paid for in order to make these rooms private for families.

Is smoking permitted?

Smoking is strictly forbidden on all Safestay premises. Each hostel has designated outside smoking area with ashtrays provided. Ask on arrival for more details.

Payment methods

We accept credit card, cash or traveller's cheques, in Pounds Sterling only. We do not accept American Express or Laser Card.

Do you have weekly rates?

Our nightly rates are so good that we don’t have weekly or monthly rates.

Do you have a place to leave bicycles?

Yes, we have secure bicycle storage.

Do you provide a laundry?

Yes, we have coin operated washing and drying machines. Irons (£10.00 deposit) and ironing boards can also be borrowed from reception.

Is there a limit on how long I can stay?

Yes, Safestay has a maximum stay policy of 1 month. You are welcome to come back to Safestay, but with a minimum 1 months rest period.

Aaahhh...breathe easy!

We're a 100% smoke-free environment. So please follow our no-smoking rules - there's a £250 fine per night for anyone lighting up inside the hotel.

GROUP BOOKING FORM

What is a group?

A group is 10 or more people travelling together.

Is there an age restriction?

Are your dormitories and rooms secure?

Yes. All rooms and entrances to our properties are secured with key card access only. Each hostel has a 24-hour manned reception supported by a CCTV system. All dorms have lockers, you can bring your own padlock or purchase one for £3.50 at reception.

Who can stay at Safestay?

We are independent, so you don't need to be a member of any organisation or show a hostel card to stay.

Can you guarantee that nobody else will be staying in our room?

Yes. When you book your group in through our group reservations department we guarantee that nobody else will be staying in your room.

Can the whole group stay on the same floor?

Due to the unique design and composition of our buildings we can’t always guarantee that groups will be accommodated on the same floor as this will depend on the layout of the building and type of rooms you have chosen. We will of course do our best to accommodate you as close as possible, if you have any concerns about room configuration our Group Reservations department will be happy to discuss these with you.

Are all rooms en-suite?

Our hostels have a mixture of en-suite and standard rooms. If you have a preference please specify when liaising with the Group Reservation team.

Do you accept school parties?

Yes and thanks to our city centre locations, 24hr receptions and great social spaces our hostels are ideal for school groups.

We are planning a school trip; do you have social areas that we can use to recap our day?

Yes. We have large open spaces that have been designed for groups to meet and relax, so you won't feel over-crowded.

What are the bunk beds like in the dorm rooms?

The bunk beds at Safestay are very comfortable and all bed linen is provided. The majority of beds are fitted with privacy curtains and a personal night-light, allowing you to have a relaxing night's sleep.

Do Safestay’s hostels have good transport connections?

Yes. All Safestay hostels are located in city centres with great transport links to make sure you can easily find your way. Check out the property pages for info on the nearest transport links and best ways to navigate each city.

What are the room sizes?

We have a wide variety of room sizes, including 4, 6 and 8 bunk dorm rooms, as well as twin bunks and private double rooms complete with their own tea and coffee facilities, towels and a 40 inch TV. Ensuite and standard dorm rooms range from 4 to 33 beds.

What are the shower facilities for dorm rooms?

Due to the unique design of our buildings shower facilities vary across our properties. The majority of our rooms, including dormitories come with en-suite facilities. The small number of rooms without facilities have access to ample bathrooms off the corridors.

Do you have any special offers for groups?

Parties of 10 or more can receive a 10% discount, 15% for groups of more than 50. See our Group Bookings page for details.

Do you have Wi-Fi and Internet access in all Safestay locations?

Yes. Lobbies and communal areas come complete with free Wi-Fi, the majority of hostels also have Wi-Fi access in the rooms. We also have computer and Internet rooms that can be used for a small cost.

What are your prices for group bookings?

Are towels included?

When you make a group booking in Safestay London Holland Park, Safestay London Elephant & Castle and Safestay York, towels are included in private twin and double rooms only, and can be rented for £2, with a £5 deposit in other rooms. Towels are included in all group bookings for Safestay Edinburgh. Towels are also available to purchase for £10.

Do you have same-sex rooms?

All our rooms are unisex, but we can try and arrange single sex dorms if requested, subject to availability. Please telephone the individual hostel to make your request.

Do you request a deposit on arrival?

The group leader will be required to give a credit card or cash deposit on arrival, the deposit if £250 per group (£500 for Stags and Hens). If the deposit is paid on a credit card the card holder must be present. The deposit will be returned on day of departure if no damage has been caused during your stay.

Deductions will be made if the House Rules for Groups are not adhered to. For all accidental or incidental damage caused by any member of the group, including the removal of any items from the property without prior consent. Smoking is strictly forbidden and anyone found smoking on the premises will receive a fine of £250. £5 will deducted for any lost key cards.
