Pasteleria Bratislava
You cannot visit Bratislava and not get a taste of slovenský krémeš — a beloved dessert that holds a special place in Slovak culinary tradition. Also known as Slovak cream cake or the Slovak Napoleon this decadent treat consists of layers of puff pastry alternating with creamy vanilla custard filling, all topped off with a layer of caramelised sugar.
Open from 9 AM — 7 PM the bakery has two branches in the city, both located a short 20—minute city stroll away from Safestay.
Emil Cafe
Serving delicious coffee and pastries Emil Cafe is the hangout spot for hip Slovakians. Located in the courtyard of a 300—year—old Mirbachov Palace and was founded by the same people who created Otto! (another favourite of locals) the cafe transports you into a world of history and culture.

If you love cheese this place is for you — try the classic Bryndzové halušky (sheep’s cheese gnocchi) and Kapustnica (cabbage soup) with a side of Smažený syr (fried cheese) and have a taste of Slovakian heritage through their cuisine.

Carrying on with the theme of historic buildings, this speakeasy-style bar is a secret spot for drink and music lovers. Located inside of another establishment but right in the heart of the old town Michalska Cocktail Room blends classic whiskey—based cocktails with a vintage interior and is a cool refresher on a hot Summer day.
Open from Wednesday to Friday from 6 PM — 2 AM, head to the Michalska 5 Street and ask the barista at Urban Bistro for directions to the bar.
NIBBLE & sip house
Bratislava has a great nightlife scene, which is often surprising to hear due to its stereotypes of being calm and safe. However, the city youth knows how to party, and they party at NIBBLE & sip house — a tapas bar & restaurant, but more importantly a beautiful event space for DJ sets, private parties and the electronic music scene gaining popularity in Bratislava.
Don’t be fooled, the space has a rich selection of modern meals and innovative cocktails — owning up to the name — NIBBLE & sip. One thing to remember is to book in advance & check their events on Facebook before dropping by spontaneously.
Otto!
Located on the beautiful Grösslingová it is a sight by itself, this favourite of locals we mentioned briefly is a lovechild of the Emil Cafe owners. Offering a selection of beers, delicious modern—European food and an impressive natural wine list Otto! is an aesthetically charged spot that charms the hip youth AND adults alike.
Open every day from 8 AM — 10 PM (until 3 PM on the weekends) and we advise you to book in advance to ensure you get a spot, as it gets crowded for only good reasons.
