The highspeed train network across Europe is one of the best globally. Nowadays it’s so easy to travel to different cities in Europe by train whilst getting a feel for the locals who use them daily. It can also save on your travel costs, meaning you can spend more on your actual trip!

That’s why we’ve created this guide to show you how you can do this across all of our locations in Europe!

 

When travelling to so many places in one trip, it’s important to group locations together so you can optimise your journey in each region. So we’ve grouped our European locations into 3 regions:

 

The UK – Safestay London, Safestay York, Safestay Edinburgh

Central Europe – Safestay Prague, Safestay Brussels, Safestay Vienna

Southern Europe – Safestay Lisbon, Safestay Madrid, Safestay Barcelona

The UK Tour – How to visit all our UK locations by train

1. Safestay London → Safestay York
From our Safestay London locations (Safestay London Elephant & Castle or Safestay London Kensington Holland Park) use the London Underground to get to Kings Cross/ St. Pancras Station

 

Safestay London Elephant & Castle →  Kings Cross/ St. Pancras Station

Take the Northern Line from Elephant & Castle Station to Kings Cross Station

– The journey is 7 stops and is about 15 minutes

– The journey costs £2.40 using an Oyster or Contactless card and £4.90 if you pay by cash

 

Safestay London Elephant & Castle →  Kings Cross Station

Take the central line from Holland Park Station to Oxford Circus Station. At Oxford Circus Station take the Victoria Line to Kings Cross/ St. Pancras Station

– The journey is 9 stops and is about 25 minutes

– The journey costs £2.90 using an Oyster or Contactless card and £4.90 if you pay by cash

 

Once you have arrived at Kings Cross/ St. Pancras Station you will have to take the London North Eastern Railway straight to York.

– The journey is between 2 to 2.5 hours

– The prices for this journey ranges from £25-£120 as it depends on what time and day you travel

– We’re located only a 7-minute walk from the station!

2.Safestay York → Safestay Edinburgh

Safestay Edinburgh – Entrance

This journey is a lot easier to complete. It only involves taking one train. 

 

When you arrive at York station, you will be able to take the London North Eastern Railway straight to Edinburgh station.

– The journey is approximately 2.5 hours

– The prices for this journey ranges from £25-£100 as it depends on what time and day you travel

– We’re located only a 7-minute walk from the station!

3. Safestay Edinburgh → Safestay London

From Safestay Edinburgh you can easily take one train straight to London and then grab the London Underground to either of our London hostels (Safestay London Elephant & Castle or Safestay London Kensington Holland Park)

 

At Edinburgh Station grab the London North Eastern Railway straight to Kings Cross/ St. Pancras Station.

– The journey is roughly 4 hours and 15 minutes

– The prices for this journey ranges from £45-£70 as it depends on what time and day you travel

– Our London locations are located about 20 minutes away from Kings Cross/ St. Pancras Station.

4. Safestay Libson → Safestay Madrid

From Safestay Lisbon, the closest station is Restauradores. From there you will be able to take some trains through the many beautiful neighbourhoods of Lisbon and Madrid before arriving in the centre of the Spanish capital. It would be an idea to spend a few days in these neighbourhoods to make the most of them! For more information on the neighbourhoods you’ll visit click here

– Our Lisbon location is located about 3 minutes away from Alonso Martinez station

5. Safestay Madrid → Safestay Barcelona

Barcelona

From Safestay Madrid, take Madrid Cercanías (RENFE) (Trains C10 or C8) or the Spanish Railways (RENFE) (Trains R) to Madrid Atocha Railway Station.

 

At Madrid Atocha Railway Station get the Spanish Railways AVE to Barcelona Sants.

– The journey is roughly 4 hours

– The prices for this journey ranges from €56-€81 as it depends on what time and day you travel

Our 3 Barcelona locations are located nearby the Barcelona Sants station.

Barcelona Sants → Safestay Barcelona Passeig de Gràcia

Take the Barcelona Cercanías (RENFE) (Bus number R1 or R3) to  Barcelona Plaça Catalunya. From there it is approximately a 10-minute walk to the hostel.

– The journey is roughly 15 minutes in total and costs between €1-€4

Barcelona Sants → Safestay Barcelona Gothic

Take the Barcelona Cercanías (RENFE) (Bus number R2) to Barcelona Cercanías (RENFE). From there it is approximately a 5-minute walk to the hostel.

– The journey is roughly 22 minutes in total and costs between€1-€3

Barcelona Sants → Safestay Barcelona Sea

Take the Barcelona Cercanías (RENFE) (Bus number R2) to Barcelona Cercanías (RENFE). From there it is approximately a 15-minute walk to the hostel.

– The journey is roughly 31 minutes in total and costs between €1-€3

 

6. Safestay Barcelona → Safestay Lisbon

Safestay Lisbon

From Barcelona Sants station you will have to grab several trains that will take you through many magnificent neighbourhoods in Spain and Portugal before arriving in Lisbon! It’s a great way to discover so many places! You will arrive at Restauradores station in Lisbon which is 2 minutes away from the Lisbon Hostel

7. Safestay Brussels → Safestay Prague

Safestay Prague – Dorm Room

Your train journey will start from De Brouckere and will take you through many neighbourhoods in Germany until you reach Praha station in Prague. The hostel is then a 20-minute walk from this station. You might be able to break up your journey and spend a bit of time in Germany.

 

– The journey is roughly 13 hours.

8. Safestay Prague → Safestay Vienna

From Praha station, you can take the RegioJet straight to Wein Hbf. From Wein, it is approximately a 25-minute walk to the hostel

9. Safestay Vienna → Safestay Brussels

From Wein station, you can take several trains throughout the neighbourhoods of Germany until you reach De Brouckere station in Brussels. From there it is a 4-minute walk to the Brussels Hostel.

HOW TO TRAVEL BETWEEN THE UK, CENTRAL EUROPE & SOUTHERN EUROPE

 

We’ve found the easiest ways to travel from one category to another.

 

The UK → Central Europe.

London to Brussels by train

The best way to travel from the UK to start your Central European Tour would be to take the Eurostar from London Kings Cross to Bruxelles-Midi Eurostar.

From there you would take the local subway to the Brussels Centre. Then it is a short 2-minute walk to the hostel

 

– The journey is roughly 2 hours 15 minutes.

– The prices for this journey starts from £117 as it depends on what time and day you travel

Central Europe → Southern Europe

The best way to travel from Central Europe to start your Southern European Tour would be to take the Wein train to Paris. From Paris, you can grab another train to Barcelona Sants. Then you can use the local subway to get to any of our Barcelona Hostels

 

– The journey is roughly 18 hours.

– The prices for this journey starts from €324-€431 as it depends on what time and day you travel

Southern Europe → The UK

We are not gonna lie. This is the only journey that involves air travel.

 

– The total air journey is roughly 2 hours 40 minutes.
