To celebrate International Women’s Day, we’ve launched our new female only dorms across all of our hostels

Congratulations to Marta from Vigo, who nominated Frida Kahlo, the inspirational Mexican artist and feminist icon, and is the lucky winner of our competition and a trip for 2 to one of our mainland European hostels.

Our new Frida Kahlo dorm rooms have now launched across all of our hostels in Madrid, Lisbon, Prague, Barcelona, York, London, and Edinburgh. They will be themed this SUMMER!

Frida Kahlo was a Mexican artist, political campaigner and feminist icon. Born in 1907, Kahlo was left disabled by polio as a child, and at the age of 18 was seriously injured in a traffic accident, the impact of which radiated through the rest of her life. Her interest in politics and the Mexican Communist Party along with her artwork inspired mainly by Mexican folk culture, earned her recognition from the Tate Modern, who called her ‘one of the most significant artists of the twentieth century.’ Kahlo has become a signifier of nonconformity, and an icon for political movements, feminists, the LGBT community and Chicanos.
